Saleem Baig retires
Saleem Baig retired from the Iowa DOT in July.
When Saleem Baig retires at the end of July as LTAP’s contractor administrator in the Iowa DOT’s Office of Local Systems, Iowa LTAP will lose one of its most loyal supporters.
Since joining the Iowa DOT’s Office of Local Systems in the early 1990s,
Saleem has been in daily contact with city and county agencies. He’s
come to know many local roads staff across the state and the day-to-day challenges
they face.
“I like helping people find the resources and help they need,”
he says. “My job has been very satisfying. I’m going to miss the
daily contact with cities and counties.
“I also like working with LTAP. It’s one of the most cost-effective programs around, providing technical training to local governments at a very reasonable cost.”
Saleem has served on the LTAP advisory board for several years and as LTAP’s contract administrator since 2000. He has been instrumental in the board’s taking a more proactive role in determining Iowa LTAP’s goals, priorities, and budgets.
Saleem’s relationships with local transportation agencies across the state and with staff at Iowa LTAP have made him an effective liaison between Iowa DOT and LTAP. He met LTAP’s current director, Duane Smith, more than 30 years ago when both of them were designers at the the Iowa State Highway Commission. Saleem has worked closely with LTAP’s staff to develop workshop ideas and to envision and implement initiatives.
“LTAP is based on building cooperative relationships among people and organizations,” says Duane Smith. “Saleem is a perfect example of how such relationships contribute to LTAP’s success.
“We’re going to miss him.”
