Annual Student Paper Competition

The MTC held a successful student paper competition open to all universities in Region 7 in November 1999. This competition will be held in the Fall each year. Submitting a paper is a requirement of participation in the MTC Scholars Program at Iowa State University. Students from several universities in Kansas and Iowa participated in 1999. The winner of the paper competition (which was judged by several academic reviewers from outside of Region 7) was David J. White of Iowa State University, a graduate student in Civil Engineering. David was subsequently nominated as the UTC Transportation Student of the Year from Region 7 and attended the awards ceremony at TRB in January 2000. He was given a cash award for winning the paper competition and his travel to Washington was supported by the MTC. This year, the goal will be to expand participation in the competition to students from additional universities.
