Asset Management Activities in Missouri

The Transportation Infrastructure Center at UM-C is taking a leadership role in Asset Management/GASB 34 in Missouri. Several activities to date include presentations to top officials at MoDOT on the value of "preservation first" investment strategies, to the state planning conference and at several informal meetings of staff officials. Charles Nemmers and Kristen Sanford Bernhardt of UM-C participated in the 3rd National Asset Management Conference in Arizona in December 1999 (along with a representative of the MTC from ISU/CTRE - Omar Smadi). MoDOT did not attend this conference, so Nemmers and Berhardt presented a comprehensive four-hour presentation/discussion to interested MoDOT personnel. The MTC (in cooperation with the Midwest Resource Center of FHWA) also helped sponsor the development and presentation of a training course on "Asset Management for Local Government" taught in Kansas City on November 18, 1999. UM-KC was the lead institution in this endeavor. Associate MTC Director Nemmers gave the lunch presentation on why "Worst First Is Worst".
