Students at TRB

The MTC helps students fund their travel and attendance at the Transportation Research Board’s Annual Meeting. Following are a few Iowa State University students’ reactions to the experience.

Greg Karssen

I was able to attend sessions of interest as well as hear about new issues I might otherwise not have considered, and I enjoyed the opportunity to see ideas discussed in ISU classes further developed at a large conference setting.

Cari Kinzenbaw

This was my first trip to the TRB. This was a great time to learn the ropes. The best part about it was going to the resume room and getting my name out there so when I need a job in a couple years, I already have my foot in the door.

Craig Mizera

The annual meeting of the TRB gave me the opportunity to broaden my transportation background. The sessions helped me realize what effort goes into making our transportation system what it is today.

Josh Hinds

As a student attending my first TRB conference, I thought it was a great chance to expose myself to other things related to the transportation industry. I was very pleased with how well-rounded the TRB conference was in regards to different subject areas.

Eric Fitzsimmons

The TRB conference was well worth the trip. I was voted into the Law Enforcement Committee as a young member. Additionally, I had the chance to sit next to and meet the president of Amtrak during a passenger rail session.

Dan Ormand

Attending TRB heightened my interest in my research and helped me better realize its importance.

Josh Hochstein

I met other students from all across the country, and it was nice getting to know a few of them and learning about their research interests and what they’re doing at their universities. I also had my first opportunity to give an actual presentation at TRB, which was well received by the audience. This opportunity to present served as the most educational and rewarding experience of TRB for me.
