MTC Asset Newsletter Winter 2007
Go! Exploring the World of Transportation

Go! magazine "cover" for the March/April 2007 issue
Co-sponsored by the MTC, the Center for Transportation Research and Education (CTRE) has recently begun a pilot test of an online magazine for teenagers and young adults (www.go-explore-trans.org).
Go! shows young people, and the adults in their lives, that transportation is a cool, exciting, dynamic field and helps them better understand the role of this important industry in their own lives. Go! will, we hope, inspire some to consider transportation-related academic programs at Iowa State University, ultimately helping fill the “pipeline” of future transportation workers.
The premiere issue of Go! was launched January 4, 2007. The first issue’s theme is winter work and contains three feature articles and several recurring departments. Feature articles deal with winter air travel, a teen’s test drive of the Iowa DOT’s snowplow simulator, and wintertime construction.
CTRE plans to produce two more issues, one for March/April and one for May/June, and then evaluate the project. CTRE hopes to attract a minimum of 500 teen subscribers (subscriptions are free). If that objective is achieved, CTRE will pursue a long-term funding strategy that will allow the continued and more frequent publication of Go!.
