Research Method
WisDOT constructed 3 pilot projects in 2000, and is constructing 6 additional pilot projects in 2001. The steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) is being used on full-depth deck construction of new bridges with the primary purpose of enhanced crack control. Most SFRC pilot structures are located on twin structures, where the second structure of the pair is constructed with conventional materials and methods for comparison. Specifications call for 80 lbs/cy of type I or II steel fibers per ASTM A820.
