About the Expo

With tight transportation budgets and limited staff, all-season maintenance has become especially challenging, but Iowa’s transportation professionals are committed to satisfying the public’s expectations for safe travel in all kinds of weather and on all of Iowa’s roadways.

To help transportation professionals meet that commitment, the Expo will include

Who Should Attend?

The Expo is for city, county, and state staff responsible for all-season maintenance:

One of the strengths of the Expo is the variety of people who will participate. You will meet participants who perform the same job you do and others who fill entirely different roles.

Special Events

Along with the educational sessions and vendor displays, the Expo will also include the roadeos and “Build a Better Mousetrap” competition.

Snow Plow Roadeo, August 28

Iowa’s Snow Plow Roadeo offers plow operators an opportunity to challenge each other’s driving skills. This event typically attracts teams from city, county, and state shops all around Iowa. More than just a good time, preparing for and participating in the roadeo is a great way to develop your shop’s vehicle maintenance program and increase operators’ safety awareness. More information.

Motor Grader Roadeo, August 28

The Motor Grader Roadeo challenges operators in the safe and efficient operation of a motor grader. This event requires frame and moldboard positioning that simulates different job requirements an operator faces involving the preparation of road surfaces and shoulders, drainage, and snow removal. More information.

Note: Because of scheduling difficulties, roadeo participants must choose either the snow plow or motor grader. Unfortunately, registration in both events cannot be accommodated.

Build a Better Mousetrap, August 29

This competition celebrates the innovative tools and techniques created by Iowa public transportation agency personnel. Download the mousetrap submission form (183 kb pdf).
