CE 353 Lab Week 5: MapInfo GIS Tutorial

Initial Instructions

  1. Get a new partner (i.e., one that you haven't had before).
  2. Work in teams of 2.
  3. Submit only one set of files for the entire team.

Tasks

  1. With "MY COMPUTER", create a new folder under C:\user called lab5 (C:\user\lab5)
  2. Copy the files from the NTAPPS drive, folder mapinfo\data to the user\lab5 folder (this will create a user\lab5\data folder and it's subdirectories)
  3. Follow the instructions in the MapInfo tutorial. Important! When the manual specifies the mapinfo\data directory, use the working folder user\lab5\data.
  4. Complete all lessons except 3,9, and 10 (this will probably take 2 hours beyond class time). When you come back to work on the lab, you will need to repeat the steps above.
  5. Important! Not in tutorial documentation! At the end of each lesson, save a workspacefile to the C:\user\lab5 directory. Name the file with both student id#s and the lesson number in the format of "##_##les?.wor", where ## is student ID numbers and ? is the lesson number.
  6. When you are done submit the files to Dr. Souleyrette via FTP using the submittal directions.
  7. Grade: Grade will be determined by the accuracy of the files you submit.

Troubleshooting Notes:
