Bypass and Future Forecasts

The final step is to develop forecasts for future traffic in the area. To perform this step, the Iowa DOT's Coordinated Management System database contains a field for expansion factor which is used to forecast future volumes. The user should make a marque selection of the study area and use the calculate statistics on the expansion factor to determine an average growth for the region. Then the user should update a field in the links file with the total loaded volume time the quantity of one plus the expansion factor raised to the appropriate year in the future. This will provide the user with a future traffic volume for which ever scenario selected. The user should perform this operation for both the base scenario and the bypass scenario to develop the final volumes for the area, with and without the bypass. This should also be done for any other access scenarios or alignments of interest.
