About the research
Research objective: Lane departure crashes contribute to a significant percentage of the total number of motor vehicle crashes in the United States. Dangerous crash envelopes occur once a vehicle crosses a lane line, or the centerline.
The objectives of this study are the following: identify strategies, policies, and practices adopted by state agencies to reduce lane departure related motor vehicle crashes with a focus on states bordering Iowa; summarize key aspects of selected strategies; update the Iowa Department of Transportation's strategic action plan; conduct an external peer-review of the outcomes of the research efforts, and prepare a final report/update the existing Iowa Lane Departure Strategic Action Plan to address lane departure related crashes.
