About the research

Research objective: This research is divided into several tasks.

Task 1: The objective for this task is to identify counties demonstrating the greatest crash risk on secondary, low-volume roads.

Task 2: Caididate sites will be selected from the counties identified in Task 1.

Task 3: An in-depth analysis of the crashes occurring at candidate sites will be conducted.

Task 4: The research team will visit sites and identify characteristics of the sites. A primary objective of this task is to identify common site characteristics that may impact safety performance.

Task 5: Descriptive statistics will be prepared for low-volume secondary road crashes as well as other secondary road crashes for comparison purposes.

Task 6: The objective of this task is to create a system-level generalized linear model for secondary, low-volume road crashes. This model will attempt to isolate crash, drive, and/or roadway variables that are the best predictors of low-volume road crashes.
