About the research

Research objective: Safety Corridor Programs have been initiated and successfully implemented in several states in an effort to reduce crashes and improve safety in specific roadway sections that exhibit undesirable safety performance. CTRE at Iowa State University has teamed with the University of Missouri-Columbia to conduct a synthesis study of safety corridor programs. The research applied selected best practices identified from the synthesis study to selected routes in Iowa and analyzed the effectiveness of those measures on improving safety.

Reports of the road safety audits are listed above. Road safety audits were conducted for the following highways:

--US 6 from Iowa City to West Liberty in Johnson and Muscatine Counties, Iowa

--IA 25 in Union County from Creston to North H-24 intersection

--I-380 through Cedar Rapids and Hiawatha in Linn County, Iowa

--US 52 from IA 136 to Dubuque

--US 61/Harrison Street and West Locust Street Intersection in Davenport-Scott County, Iowa

--US 61 from Muscatine, Iowa, to Davenport, Iowa
