Motor Grader Operator Workshop

MoGO instructor talks with student in the field

The Motor Grader Operator (MoGO) Workshop is a one-day training program with an optional second day that uses experienced operators to teach others efficient and safe operating practices.

Who should attend?

Motor grader operators and supervisors who manage motor grader operators.

New operators find the training helpful, and experienced operators feel it is a good refresher course. Supervisors who attend will stay abreast of new developments and operating techniques.

Course participants should be familiar with basic equipment operations prior to attending.

Instructors

Each program uses a team of instructors who have had extensive on-the-job experience operating motor graders.

A lead instructor teaches the classroom portion of the program and leads discussions using videotapes and slide presentations. The assistant instructors help answer questions, promote group discussions, and share their own expertise. Fred Short, CTRE's MoGO program coordinator, provides on-site coordination.

For the field day activities, the instructor team splits up. Each instructor travels to a local site to observe road conditions and meet with individual operators who run their own equipment on location. Whenever possible, the field day is the day following the classroom session.

Dates and locations

For current dates and locations, see the calendar or contact Georgia Parham at CTRE, 515-294-2267, gparham@iastate.edu. Dates and locations for the MoGO workshops are determined each year after applications are received. A site convenient to several counties or cities planning to attend is located. Whenever possible, CTRE tries to hold the event at a nearby community college or DOT maintenance office.

Materials and certificates

Participants receive a packet of materials including tips and safety information. Each person also receives a certificate at the end of the classroom session.

Registration and fees

The fee includes lunch, breaks, and course materials.
